[ARCHIVED] Fire Hydrant Spring Maintenance

hydrant

The Fire Department will be starting its spring hydrant maintenance
program the week of May 1, 2017. Hydrant servicing will occur from May 1, 2017and run through May 31, 2017 or until completion. Residents may notice fire
personnel working at fire hydrants and allowing water to flow from the hydrant.

Due to the fire hydrant flushing, customers could experiencea temporary discoloration of water, which is due to the unsettling of rust in
the water main. If this occurs in your home, running the cold water for 5minutes or until clear is normally all that is required.

We conduct a fire hydrant maintenance program for the following
purposes:

·        Flushes sediments from water main
pipes to enhance water quality.

·        Verifies the proper operation of
fire hydrants and associated valves.

·        Aids in determining deficiencies in
the water distribution system.

·        Identifies closed valves and proper
flows in the water mains.

·        Verifies water pressure and flow for
firefighting.
